Statement approved by the AAVI Board on 03/06/2025
- Expresses deep concern regarding the drastic and heedless reduction of the scientific workforce, which can have dire consequences for immunology and health sciences research. We especially stand in unwavering support of our valued colleagues at the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) and other federal bodies related to animal health research.
- Is committed to advancing evidence-based research on animal vaccines, combating misinformation, and upholding the integrity of the scientific process, as historical evidence shows that vaccines are critical for mitigating economic losses due to infectious diseases in production animals and ensuring the well-being of production and pet animals.
- Is committed to supporting and empowering diverse individuals and perspectives that enrich the veterinary research community and whose contributions have ensured the safety and prosperity of the nation’s food supply and the health of pets that we love as family.
- Expresses deep concern at the levels of instability and unpredictability introduced into the federal funding mechanisms recently. These mechanisms have been the driving force behind innovation and scientific leadership of the United States. We urge policymakers and implementers to ensure our nation’s scientists retain access to the resources necessary to drive discovery, innovation, and public health advancements, the absence of which can lead to disastrous consequences for the health, economic safety, and well-being of the American people.
