AAVI Early-Career Award
The AAVI Early-Career Award recognizes up to one (1) outstanding very early-career investigator for research accomplishments in their own labs. Postdoctoral accomplishments may be considered secondarily as a measure of professional promise in the field of veterinary immunology.
The purpose of this award is to encourage and foster the development of talented, very early-career AAVI member scientists, enabling them to continue advancing their research and scientific contributions in veterinary immunology.
The award includes a certificate and recognition at the AAVI Annual Meeting and Business Luncheon.
Eligibility
At the time of application, nominees must be:

It is, however, recognized that there may have been family-related, personal, or other circumstances that resulted in extended time away from the laboratory. Exceptions to the stated time limits will be considered based on a description of any special circumstances in the nomination letter.
Nomination Instructions
Please include the following in the nomination package:
The deadline for nominations will be announced shortly, but it is expected in July 2026. Packages must be submitted as a single combined PDF file via the online nomination form. Incomplete nomination packages or nominations that do not comply with the stated instructions will not be considered. AAVI will not accept materials sent separately or through email or regular mail. Final award decisions are at AAVI's discretion.
Candidates may be re-nominated annually, with complete nominations submitted for each year of nomination.

- General AAVI members in good standing,
- Have 2 or more years of uninterrupted AAVI membership, and
- Independent research scientists (PIs) who started their first independent position no more than 5 years ago (for 2027 eligibility, the first independent position must have begun after September 10, 2021).† The beginning of independence should be clearly indicated in the application package.

- One (1) nomination letter, not to exceed three (3) pages, signed and submitted by a General or Lifetime AAVI member in good standing, indicating the nominee’s qualifications for the award. The nomination letter must be from a single individual and not include multiple endorsements. It should reflect the observations and opinions of the author.
- Up to one (1) additional letter of recommendation, not to exceed three (3) pages, from a different individual and not including multiple endorsements within them. This letter must be signed and included in the package.
- The nominee’s CV or biosketch.
